The first instrumental/vocal dynamic microphone I bought and use for my weekly podcasts. Price point is just about right for a microphone of this caliber as well as build quality and functionality. I would say it’s rated in the top 3 podcasting mics out there and the most affordable one.

One of the most widely used studio mics of all time is the Electro-voice RE20, Building on that legacy, the RE320 is a professional quality dynamic microphone designed specifically for recording and sound applications requiring extremely low noise and the highest level of tonal and transient response. Ideal for capturing vocal and instrument sources, the RE320 delivers unparalleled detail, dynamic content and natural tone.

Variable D is Electro-Voice’s exclusive solution to the tonal changes associated with the proximity effect found in other directional microphones. Providing balanced and uniform frequency response, the result is always stable and linear tonal performance-even when the sound source is moving around the mic. The RE320 is ideal for capturing the critical details of voice, amplified and acoustic instruments.

Aesthetically, the RE320 looks very much like the RE20. It features that striking, classic vented chassis with an updated look due to its black semi-gloss finish.

Assuming you like the RE20, you can’t go wrong with the RE320 at $339.00 CAD at the time of this post. Its additional bottom end seems useful on both kick and Voice Overs. Its top end is just as smooth and worthy for broadcasting just as the RE20. Its Variable D proximity effect control is tuned just right and the RE320 can handle all the abuse of rock ’n’ roll. The RE320 is a black beauty of a RE20, with lots more versatility.
